How we handle your information.

Written in plain language first. StoryTrek works without an account and keeps your journeys on your device. Signing in turns on syncing, and StoryTrek+ adds journal backup. If the app hits an error, it sends a crash report so we can fix it. That report is the only thing StoryTrek sends without an account.

Information we collect

Health & fitness data

With your permission, StoryTrek asks Apple Health (iOS) or Health Connect (Android) how far you walked or ran each hour, and nothing else. It never reads the individual recordings behind that number, or your location, route, heart rate, or any other health metric. Those hourly distances advance your journey. If you're signed in, they also sync to your account. You can turn off access at any time in Apple Health or Health Connect.

Account information (signed-in accounts only)

Signing in is optional and free. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive the identifier and email address that sign-in provides, and your name if the provider shares it. You can set a display name and avatar for your profile.

Synced progress (signed-in accounts only)

Signing in is the only thing that turns syncing on. A signed-in account backs up your journey progress, profile, and company data, so a reinstall or a new phone picks up where you left off. We sync hourly distance totals, never your raw Health data, location, or route. Nothing leaves your device for an account you haven't created.

Journal entries (backup for StoryTrek+ subscribers only)

Journal entries and the photos you add to them are stored on your device. StoryTrek uses your camera or photo library only when you choose to add a photo. With StoryTrek+, your journal entries and media are also backed up to your account.

Company & shared journey data (signed-in accounts only)

Creating or joining a company requires only a signed-in account. Only the company's members can see your profile (display name and avatar) and your progress on the shared journey. StoryTrek has no public social feed.

Crash reports

If StoryTrek hits an error, it sends a report to our crash-reporting service so we can fix the problem. The report describes the failure and includes your app version and phone model. It carries no account details, journal content, or location. Nothing is sent while things are working.

Purchases

Subscriptions and purchases of individual StoryTreks are processed by the Apple App Store or Google Play. We use RevenueCat to confirm what you've purchased and restore it on your devices. If you're signed in, it's linked to your account identifier. We never receive or store your payment card details.

How we use your information

We use the information above only to:

  • Track and display your progress along a StoryTrek journey
  • Sync your progress, profile, and company data if you sign in, and back up your journal if you subscribe
  • Show your progress to the members of a company you've joined, if applicable
  • Diagnose and fix crashes
  • Provide customer support if you contact us

We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not sell your information to anyone.

Where your information is stored

If you don't sign in, everything stays on your device. If you do, your profile, synced progress, and company data are stored on secure cloud servers used to run StoryTrek. StoryTrek+ journal backups are stored there too.

Third-party services

StoryTrek uses a small number of service providers to run the app: Supabase for accounts, sign-in, and cloud storage; Sentry for crash reports; RevenueCat for purchase and subscription status; and Apple and Google for sign-in, payments, and health data on your device. We don't use third-party analytics or advertising services. If that changes, we'll update this policy first.

This website uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits and see which pages people find useful. It sets no cookies, doesn't track you across other sites, and isn't connected to your StoryTrek account. The download links on this site tell the App Store and Google Play which page you came from, so we can see which parts of the site lead to downloads.

Data retention & deletion

You can delete your account and its synced data from Settings within the app or from our account deletion page. Deleting your account removes your profile, synced progress, journal backups, and company membership from our servers. Data kept only on your device is removed whenever you delete the app.

Children's privacy

StoryTrek is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.

Your choices

  • Use StoryTrek without an account; your journeys stay on your device.
  • Revoke Health access at any time in Apple Health or Health Connect.
  • Delete your account and synced data from the app or the website.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as StoryTrek changes. We'll update the date below when we do, and continue to describe, plainly, what we collect and why.
